Young Won Cho, M.D., age 86, of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at his home under the care of Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of Dai-hyun & Jung-tai (Kim) Cho, he was born on March 3, 1931 in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Cho served alongside the United States military with the Republic of Korea Defense Forces during the Korean War.
Following the cessation of hostilities, he emigrated to the United States to complete his residency and worked as a physician for 53 years in the fields of cardiology and research. In addition, he earned four other doctorate degrees.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Myung-ok (Cho) Choo; and two brothers, Nakwon Cho and Whewon Cho. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marie (Cho) & Michael Gregory; one beloved grandson, Tanner Gregory, who was "the apple of Granddaddy's eye"; five sisters, Younglim (Cho) Whang, Chayoung (Cho) Moon, Samyoung (Cho) Kim, Okja (Cho) Lee, and Kyungok Cho; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
