Winifred Mitchell

W. Margaret Mitchell, age 91, of Lowell, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 6, 2017. Margaret was born on October 6, 1925 in Tunstill, England to Joseph and Leah Harrison. She made the long journey to the United States after marrying an American soldier, Durward Duprey, in 1945 where she settled in Michigan. Margaret was a beloved mother of two, grandmother of three and great-grandmother of four. Her dedication to her family knew no bounds and she took great pride in them. She was young at heart and never let her age slow her down- she was a long time employee of Hudson's until she retired at 79. She often volunteered to babysit her first great-granddaughter and take her son's dog on runs at 85, and she was still performing maintenance on her home (against her family's advice) at 90. She cherished her independence and lived every day of her long life to its full potential. Margaret is preceded in death by her sister, Edith Walley; first husband, Durward Duprey; and second husband, Gary Mitchell. Surviving are her sister, Renee Barlow; children, Mark Duprey and Deborah (Al) Kile; grandchildren, Jeremy (Lauren) Duprey, Brandon (Jennifer) Duprey and Danielle Duprey; and her great-grandchildren, Gianna, Leigha, Ryan and Harrison. She was loved by many and known for her quirky spirit, humorous personality, immaculate gardens and familiar British accent. She will be missed dearly.
