Mrs. Wilma M. Kerns, age 82, of Trufant, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 13, 2006 at Spectrum Health United Memorial-Kelsey Campus, Lakeview. The daughter of Robert & Marie (Teachworth) Nisonger, she was born on Feb. 5, 1924. On March 15, 1945, in Indiana, she married Ray A. Kerns. Together, they owned and operated several businesses over the years including the former Kerns Grocery in downtown Trufant and the Government Lake Lodge in Baldwin. In previous years, she enjoyed hunting and fishing... especially fly fishing.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Johnnie Ray Kerns; her husband of 56 years, Ray A. Kerns on April 7, 2001; and two sisters, Maxine Mudge, and Mildred Avery. Surviving are four daughters, Linda & Michael Glover of Canadian Lakes, Sally & Len Larsen of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Mary & Vince Trevino of Baldwin, and Susan & Tim Smith of Baldwin; a son, Clair Dale Erskin of Vestaburg; three sisters, Roberta & Gale Eckert of Six Lakes, Beverly & John Lilly of Stanton, and Donna & Manuel Griffiths of Torch Lake; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
