Mr. William Hugh "Bill" Snyder, age 80, of Langston, passed away Wednesday evening, March 11, 2009 at home. The son of George and Letha (Lunger) Snyder, he was born on July 13, 1928 in Howard City.
A veteran of World War II, Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville.
On July 28, 1948, in Greenville, he married Alice Jeanette Jane Gibbie. Together they raised five children, while Bill worked at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company for nearly 42 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lillian Helmes; a brother, Earl Snyder; a great granddaughter, Kayleigh Robeck; and his parents-in-law, Adrian Ed & Sadie Gibbie.
Surviving are his wife of over 60 years, Jane Snyder of Langston; their children, Dawn & Floyd Bristol of Langston, Rocky Snyder of Langston, Wilma Swanger of Belding, Debbie & Pat Draper of Sheridan, and David & Joan Snyder of Ionia; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Evelyn Ferman of Florida, and Katherine Lincoln of Ionia; two sisters-in-law, Doris Bartholomew of Langston, and Betty Miller of Greenville; a brother-in-law, Harold Helmes of Harrison; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where the family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
