It is with both sorrow and reverence that we announce the passing of William James Scott, known affectionately to all as Billy. Born on December 19, 1952, in Grand Rapids, MI, Billy spent the majority of his life in Grandville, where his heart truly resided. A man known for his unwavering dedication to his craft and a robust, sarcastic wit that endeared him to all who knew him, Billy passed away on November 19, 2024.
Billy spent 40 glorious years as an upholsterer, a profession he loved and was passionate about. His career saw him spend significant years at Steelcase and Irwin Seating, where he proved time and again that he was a master of his craft. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do," and Billy embodied this philosophy to its core. He wasn’t just a hard worker; he was a craftsman who paid attention to every detail. He found joy in his work, and that passion was evident in every piece he touched. Outside of work, Billy found solace in the quietude of his home, watching sports or western films, or occasionally, testing his luck at the casino. His sharp wit and blunt honesty will be missed.
Billy's legacy isn't just in the beautiful work he left behind, but also in the lives he touched, especially that of his four daughters, who were his pride and joy. A man of few words, his love for Leah, Anna, Jeana, and Kristina was unmistakable and profound. Billy taught them the importance of work ethic and instilled in them unforgettable memories that they will carry with them always. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr and Beverly Scott and survived by his sister Sandy Way, brother Bruce Scott and Denise Scott, also many nieces and nephews. His spirit lives on in his daughters and all those who knew him.
To honor Billy Scott’s life, we invite you to share your memories and photos on his memorial page. In the words of Dr. Seuss, "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." Let's remember Billy with smiles and stories that celebrate his life and the love he shared with us.
