William Randt

August 28, 1931 — May 22, 2008

Mr. William D. Randt, age 76, of Greenville, went home to be with the Lord at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, May 22, 2008 from Metron of Greenville. The son of Frederick & Letha (Reed) Randt, he was born on Aug. 28, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana. In high school, Bill excelled in athletics and set several track records. He then served stateside in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict. He attended college at Notre Dame and Ball State University, remaining a life-long Notre Dame fan (Go Irish !). On Aug. 26, 1951, in South Bend, he married Carolyn Nancy McFarlane. Together, they raised five children and had co-owned Luigis Pizza Parlor in South Bend. After retiring from the Chrysler Corporation where he worked as an auditor, Bill operated a tax accounting and bookkeeping service. For many years, Bill & Carolyn were active in church mission work, where Bill was able to use his God given accounting skills. After moving to Greenville, he attended Oakfield Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Randt of Greenville; their children, Myra & Ron Carter of Toledo, Ohio, Mary & Henry Vaitkevicius of Billings, Montana, Marcia & Frank McConnell of Asheville, North Carolina, Frederick Earl Randt of Birmingham, Alabama, and Martha Randt of Atlanta, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Kristyn Carter, Ryan & Jessica Carter, Megan Carter, Kathryn Wyner, Robert Vaitkevicius, Carly Vaitkevicius, Daniel & Charlotte McConnell, and Sarah McConnell; one great grandson, A.J. Carter; two sisters, Betty & John Deck of South Bend, Indiana, and Mary Lou & Vic Stockman of Plymouth, Indiana; a brother, Larry & Kay Randt of South Bend, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. Longtime family friend, Pastor Jack McConaghie, will officiate. Burial will take place privately on Tuesday ay Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia.
