Bill "Buster" Buckner

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bill “Buster” Buckner, a man whose life was a shining example of love, faith, and resilience. Bill passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on December 3, 1958, Bill's unwavering devotion to his family, his Lord, and his friends touched countless lives. Bill, a devoted builder and business owner, was known for his craftsmanship and lasting relationships. He leaves behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Bill’s faith in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life. He believed wholeheartedly in the power of the greatest gift ever given to us—Jesus—and he lived his life to reflect that love. His heart was full of joy and compassion, and he found great joy in sharing his faith with others, especially his church family. Bill had a special love for children, whose wide eyes and amazement always brought out his most tender side. He cherished those moments of innocence and wonder.

A true giver, Bill’s generosity knew no bounds. He had a knack for making others feel valued, and his thoughtfulness extended far beyond material gifts. If Bill had been one of the wise men, we can only imagine the incredible gifts he would have given to Jesus. But in life, his gifts to those around him were more precious than any treasure—a listening ear, words of encouragement, a helping hand, and an abundance of love.

Bill was an adventurer at heart—never a follower, always a leader. He was sweetly stubborn, fiercely independent, and courageously determined. In times of illness and hardship, Bill’s resilience shone brightly. He faced challenges head-on, never losing hope or faith, always bouncing back stronger, and inspiring others to do the same. His strength in the face of adversity was a testament to the character he built throughout his life.

Social by nature, Bill had a way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. His infectious smile, boisterous laughter, and positive energy could light up any space. Bill was a master of lifting others up, always saying, "I love you, bro," or simply, "I love you," with sincerity and warmth.

As a friend, Bill was second to none. He was loyal, protective, and unwavering in his support. He sacrificed his time, his energy, and often his resources to ensure that those he loved were cared for in times of need. Whether it was offering a word of encouragement, providing help during difficult times, or simply being a steady presence, Bill’s friendship was a gift like no other.

Bill leaves behind a profound legacy—a life well-lived, filled with love, faith, and devotion. He was a man who made the world around him better simply by being in it. He taught us all the importance of family, friendship, and staying true to one’s faith.

Bill is survived by his two daughters, Rachel (Jeff) Ichesco, Michelle (Manveer) Hira, grandson Mason, and granddog, Mika. He is also survived by his sisters, Victoria (Vicky) Stringer, Joanne Brinkley, as well as many nieces, family, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marian Buckner, sister, Valerie (Janie) Lazarus, and brother-in-law Kenny Stringer.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 3, from 5-8 p.m. at LifePoint Church (2142 Edgewood Ave NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505). A funeral service to celebrate Bill's life will take place on Saturday, October 4th, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Tabernacle Church (606 N. Elm St., Three Oaks, MI 49128)

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Lifepoint Church, Emmanuel Hospice, or Special Olympics Michigan in Bill's memory. A special thank you to the compassionate team at Emmanuel Hospice for their care and kindness.

Rest in peace, Bill. You were a gift to us all, and your light will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
