Wilbur met Susie at St. Joe's church when they were just kids, he was an altar boy at the time and Susie was a regular church goer. The two grew up on separate farms but later rekindled their friendship, which turned in to a proposal; they then got married in 1959. Wilbur was known for his love of cars, he owned his first car when he was just 14 years old. He enjoyed sharing stories about he and his brother, Alden, selling corn at the four corner store near Gun Lake and his regular visits to the small establishments in the Gun Lake area.
Wilbur started an early career as a young boy commercial painting with his brother and father, as he got older he went on to paint on his own. He would work on homes and barns- the list goes on. Once he retired from commercial painting he and Susie worked part-time at the West Michigan Auto Auction for something to do in their spare time.
Lest we not forget Wilbur's dog, Hunter. They were buddies, companions, and friends forever. Wilbur looked forward to playing with and feeding Hunter treats every day. The amount of happiness Hunter gave Wilbur was undeniable. Hunter was truly Papa's little buddy!
Wilbur had a huge heart and was loved by so many. He will be missed most by his family.
