Wesley Eugene Ford, age 67, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, transitioned on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. He was born January 2, 1956, in Searcy, Arkansas, to the late Rudolph and Mary Louise (Davis) Ford.
Wesley, known as Peewee to family, and P-Funk to friends, had a passion for sports, especially boxing; he loved being able to watch his grandson, CJ, play baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and his wife of 46 years, Charlene "Char".
He enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, and taking trips back to Arkansas to spend time with friends and family. He was known to be the life of the party and generated lots of laughter. Wesley was known as the fun dad amongst kids in the neighborhood. He was courageous, a protector and defender of family and anyone he considered to be family. He would always help those who needed him, whether it was advice, an ear to just a shoulder to lean on. Wesley will be greatly missed by those who knew him best.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Charlene "Char" Sawyer; three children, Tamika LaShawn Sanders, Wesley Eugene Sawyer, and Kendra Marie Hill; six grandchildren, Turai Malika Finley, Tamika Lorena Finley, Turan Mallon Finley, Kalaisha Nyshae Hill, Jakyah Sakirra Hill, and Curtis Le-Andre Stevenson; great-grandson, Jalen Miller; and many siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Per Wesley's wishes cremation has taken place and no services will be held.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006.
