Wayne Goodwin

Wayne H. Goodwin, age 93, died on December 29, 2020 from complications of pneumonia and Covid-19 at his home in Wayland, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 19, 1927, in Bad Axe. Wayne was a 1945 Battle Creek Central High School graduate. After graduation, he then served in the U.S. Army. Wayne coached 8th grade football for 46 years. In 1991, he was named Citizen of the Year by the Wayland Lions Club. He was an active member of the United Church of Wayland where he sang in choir and had several leadership rolls including overseeing the construction of the current church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; father, Don; mother, Marguerite; infant brother, Jerrod; and sister, Jean. Survivors include his children, Leslie (Merle) Thompson, David T. (Coleen) Young, Mary Chrisman, Gilbert (Jan) Goodwin, Donita (Tim) O'Callaghan, Doug (Renee) Goodwin and Kelly (Scott) Dennis. He is further survived by 16 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. A private family service is scheduled with a celebration of life planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Church in Wayland.
