Warren Tanner

February 3, 1936 — August 4, 2019

Warren E. Tanner, age 83, of Alto, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019, in true courageous Marine style. He fought in Korea and won, fought in Vietnam and won, but the biggest battle of all was cancer, and he lost. He died at home surrounded by his wife, Jane and daughters, Stacey and LeAnne. He was born on February 3, 1936, at home on Michigan Street in Grand Rapids, to the late Warren & Margarite Tanner. Warren was preceded in death by four older sisters, Beatrice, Margaret, Madeline and Elnora. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Lund) Tanner; sons, Warren (Kate) Kibbe and their children, Max, Cason, Tobin and Elena; Sean (Bellatriz) and their children, Kiffanie, Brittany, Riley and Christian; Dusty (Kerri Jo) and their children, Brady and Paige; daughters, LeAnne; and Stacey and her son, Tyler; Denise (Glenn) Dykgraaf and their children, Zoey, Daniel, Garret, and Kristen; Stephanie (Patrick) Collins and their children, Chance, Skye, Ashton and Alec; Karin (Jeffrey) Brown and their children, Mikenna, Alivia, Jeff Jr. and Carly. Warren was preceded in death by four older sisters, Beatrice, Margaret, Madeline and Elnora. He is survived by his wife, Jane (Lund) Tanner; sons, Warren (Kate) Kibbe and their children, Max, Cason, Tobin and Elena; Sean (Bellatriz) and their children, Kiffanie, Brittany, Riley and Christian; Dusty (Kerri Jo) and their children, Brady and Paige; daughters, LeAnne; and Stacey and her son, Tyler; Denise (Glenn) Dykgraaf and their children, Zoey, Daniel, Garret, and Kristen; Stephanie (Patrick) Collins and their children, Chance, Skye, Ashton and Alec; Karin (Jeffrey) Brown and their children, Mikenna, Alivia, Jeff Jr. and Carly. He loved fishing, going to the cabin in Luther, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a family man at heart always willing to help others. He loved everyone and was loved by many. With his true Marine haircut, people would stop him to say "Semper Fi" no matter where he was, even when traveling in other countries. He loved everything John Wayne, including books, movies and memorabilia. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at Holy Family Catholic Parish, 9669 Kraft Ave SE, Caledonia. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am with Rev. Patrick Grile officiating. Full Military Honors will be presented by the U.S Marine Corps and the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Special thanks for so many years of friendship to his nephew, Daniel Larabel and friend, Tim and Bev Gerke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Faith Hospice.
