Walter Stevens

Walter F. “Walt” Stevens age 87, of Greenville, formerly of Lowell, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023 at University of Michigan Health West in Wyoming. The son of Frank D. & Beatrice “Betty” (Nummer) Stevens, he was born on April 4, 1936 in Greenville, grew up on the family farm, and loved working with the tractors and machinery. On November 29, 1957, in Grand Rapids, he married Elizabeth Anne “Betsy” Stokoe, sharing 65 years of life together while raising three children. Walt was an active member of Greenville First United Methodist Church and had also been active at the Lowell First United Methodist Church, having served on the Board of Trustees. He especially looked forward to the mens’ breakfast group. Walt was a proud but quiet veteran of the United States Army, serving a two year enlistment and completed his training at Fort Leonard Wood and was deployed to Korea. Walt first worked for Jim and Dora Jane Cook at Janeland Farms in Lowell before beginning a career of 33 years at Attwood Corporation in Lowell. Walt was a 4-H Leader, guiding young people in woodworking, gardening, raising animals and collecting insects. He was involved with Habitat for Humanity in Greenville. Walt’s last hobby got him making wooden puzzles and bowls for his family. We will all treasure knowing this fine man. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marion and Betsy Kay; two brothers, Richard and Ted; as well as two nephews, John Newell and Michael Newell. Surviving are his wife, Betsy Stevens of Greenville; their three children, Susan (John) Andrusiak, Don (Diana) Stevens, and Craig Stevens; grandchildren Jennifer (Chad) Ramey, Paul (Karen) Andrusiak, Kathryn Winters, Timothy Andrusiak, Elizabeth Andrusiak, Sarah (Caleb) DeSota, Rebekah (Matt) Trafer, Christopher Stevens, Ryan (Briendan) Stevens, Austin Stevens: great grandchildren: Daniel Bodus, Alexis Stevens, Lucas Stevens, Rain Stevens, Remington Stevens, Leia Trafer, Arya Winters, Eloise Winters, and Gabriel Winters; his brothers and sisters, Charlene (David) Rusch, Laura (John) Moore, Linda (Tony) Voss, Robert (Leslie) Stevens, and John Stevens; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family is from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church, 204 W. Cass Street, Greenville, Michigan, where memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Rev. Jeff Williams, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate and a luncheon will follow in Celebration Hall at the church. Burial will take place at Ashley Cemetery at a later date.
