Virginia Monroe

September 7, 1945 — July 7, 2020

Virginia May Monroe, beloved wife and mother, went home to Jesus on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, from Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Albert Evans, and her mother, Virgeline Baker Evans Geitz, as well as her sister Mary Louise Evans, and her brother Junior Lloyd "Joe" Evans. Her grandchildren, Arielle Irby and Joshua James Monroe preceded her as well. Surviving are her husband, Douglas Monroe, and her four children, Angela (Chad) Premoe, Annette (Paul) Irby, Patrick Monroe, and Karen (Rick); twelve grandchildren; five grandchildren- in-law; and four great-grandchildren. Virginia had a deep abiding faith in Jesus. She was gentle, loving, and kind to people, always welcoming, and a great listener. She took an interest in others and shared her wisdom with compassion. Virginia loved reading and the beauty of nature, especially sunsets and flowers. She often felt beautiful sunsets were a personal expression of God's love for her. She delighted in her family, enjoying the companionship of her husband and the antics of her offspring. After raising her children, she worked at the Carson City Library for twenty-two years before retiring in 2009. She was born in Ionia, Michigan, and later moved to Carson City, Michigan, where she met and married the love of her life, Douglas. They celebrated fifty-six years of marriage in April of 2020. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Carson City Cemetery in Carson City, Michigan. Following will be a celebration of what would have been Virginia's 75th birthday at Grove Park, Carson City, at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome.
