Virgil Jay Badgley, age 85, of Sheridan, Michigan, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 at Select Specialty Hospital at Corewell Health-Blodgett Hospital in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The son of Vernie Ray & Mary Elizabeth (Williams) Badgley, he was born on August 23, 1939 in Union Township, Michigan.
Virgil was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served during the Vietnam War era, attained the rank of Specialist 5th Class (equivalent to the rank of Sergeant in today’s Army), was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Motor Vehicle Driver and Mechanic Badge, and was a member of the Sitts-Halverson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5065 in Sheridan.
He then worked at General Motors Fisher-Body plant in Lansing, retiring after 25 years of service, and in retirement he was an avid hunter and fisherman and had many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; three sisters; and his special friend, Thelma Petersen.
Surviving are two brothers, Gary & Gail Badgley and David Badgley; special friends, Roger & Martha Slack; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation is from 12-1 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Christiansen’s Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rev. David Hansen will officiate and committal services, with military honors, rendered jointly by the Sitts-Halverson V.F.W. Post No. 5065 and the U.S. Army will follow at Sidney Township Cemetery.
