November 17, 1933 — May 28, 2020

Verna Isabell Loudermilk, 86, of Olivet, Michigan unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, May 28th, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence after a weeks stay at Borgess Hospital. The daughter of Hazen Pingry and Veda Della (Hawkins) Peck, she was born on November 17, 1933, in Battle Creek, Michigan. After graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1951, she started her career as a bookkeeper at Lakeview Hardware and shortly moved into the banking profession with Security National Bank and then Michigan National Bank in Battle Creek. Verna married Keith Zull of Battle Creek in 1953 and in June 1955, they welcomed their only daughter, Victoria Sue Zull. After becoming a single parent for many years, she met Linus (Doc) Loudermilk of Battle Creek who became her best friend and the love of her life. They married in 1973 and relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. After Doc's untimely death in 1975, she remained in Phoenix, working in banking with Valley National Bank which became Bank One, and then later became Chase Manhattan. Verna retired from banking and then continued employment with Ace Hardware and Wal-Mart. She had a passion for serving the public. Her interests and hobbies were varied. She loved to bowl and keep the books for the different leagues, and she enjoyed golfing in Arizona. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women (BPW),Verna also had a keen interest in politics. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, Sudoku, many kinds of card games, and doing puzzles. She adored all types of music, and she cherished dancing. She treasured the beauty of nature, especially flowers. Camping, site seeing, and visiting family and friends were all different ways she vacationed throughout the years. She also delighted in home improvements in her different homes in; Battle Creek, Phoenix, and Olivet. Verna will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, along with having a caring, giving, and quiet nature. She always found joy in helping others. Her laughter and her quick wit will always be thought of, she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Linus "Doc" Loudermilk; sister & brother-in-law, Marella & Everett Miller; brother, Leo Peck. Surviving her is her daughter, Victoria (Zull) Hathcock; grandchildren, Nicole Hathcock of Battle Creek, MI, Craig Hathcock of Battle Creek, MI, and Sharidy McCord & husband, Steve of Lynchburg, VA; great-grandchildren, Carson MacCord, Austin MacCord, and Landon Hathcock; sister, Donna Morrow-Lindauer; sister-in-law, Beverlyn Peck; along with many other family and friends. Due to the pandemic, there will be a small family service held on June 19th, 2020 at Freeway Church in Albion. Friends and extended family are invited to join by live streaming the service from the Freeway Church webpage: http://www.freeway.church/ . Visitation will begin at 4:00 PM, with memorial services starting at 5:00 PM. Family ask that social distancing be observed and face coverings be worn in order to stay safe, masks will be available if needed.
