Valerie Pierce, age 80, of Caledonia, went to be with our Lord on Friday, October 18, 2019. She was born on May 28, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Elmer and Helen (Kosinski) Henning. She had an extreme faith and was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caledonia.
Valerie had a passion for making handmade flowers, rescuing animals, traveling, and was a wonderful cook, that will be remembered for staying up all night to bake Christmas cookies. She was a smart woman and graduated salutatorian of her high school class. Valerie was proud to have worked and retired from the United States Postal Service and encouraged her family to work there as well.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Pierce; three daughters, Deborah (Charlie) Ohanesian, Christina (Mike) Pannill, and Sophia (Tony Viers) Maslowski; seven grandchildren, TJ (Trisha) Burke, Naomi (Jacob Farran) Burke, Tyler (Rachel Hughey) Burke, Steven (Shannon) Kornoelje, Lisa (Tony) Brotherton, Dan (Marissa) Savas, and Alysia (Bruce Constant) Savas-Deyoung; eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way; and many cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gus Savopoulos and John Cole; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Burke.
Gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 8436 Kraft Ave. S.E., Caledonia, Michigan, 49316, from 10:00 until the time of service at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Timothy Brand officiating.
