Thomas Lee Swainston passed away on October 5, 2026, at the age of 75. He was born on December 19, 1950.
Thomas will be remembered as an easygoing, happy man who loved his life and found joy in helping others. He was known for doing repairs on cars and for the steady way he moved through life. He never complained and just kept pushing through. Those who knew him knew his loving nature and the care he showed to the people around him.
He attended Thornapple Kellogg High School and worked as a mechanic. He took pride in working with his hands and using his skills to help others. Among the accomplishments that meant the most to him were remodeling his house and building a garage for himself and his wife, Shelly.
Thomas enjoyed hunting, disc golf, and bowling, which were some of his favorite pastimes. He especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they brought him great happiness.
Thomas also shared many everyday moments with his coffee table friends, whose companionship was a meaningful part of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Shelly; his daughters, Kathy Gaunt and her husband Ed, Faith and her wife Christina, Crystal, and Julie. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply loved by him. He is also survived by his brothers, Ken and Clyde, and his sisters, Vicki, Judy, Sue, and Karen. Thomas also shared many everyday moments with his coffee table friends, whose companionship was a meaningful part of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Swainston; his mother, Beatrice Swainston; his sons, Kevin Swainston and Thomas Swainston; and his brothers, Edward Swainston and Donald Swainston.
Thomas will be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to help, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched.
