Thomas Walter Russell, age 76, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Corewell Health-Greenville Hospital after a brief illness. The son of Walter Chauncey & Elizabeth Marie (Putnam) Russell, he was born on June 26, 1948 in Greenville.
Tom was a proud graduate of Western Michigan University, where he earned his bachelors degree. On August 31, 1968, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Belding, he married Linda Lee Stanton and together they raised three children and enjoyed nearly 56 years of marriage.
He worked in the printing trade his whole career and had owned and operated Tanna’s Printing in Greenville’s Northtown for many years. A member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Greenville, Tom was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus having served as Grand Knight. At Danish Festival you’d always find him working the Knights of Columbus aebleskiver food booth, and during the annual Tootsie Roll Drive you’d find him outside area stores in his yellow vest raising funds to help those with intellectual disabilities. Tom also enjoyed woodworking, as well as playing golf and chess.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Kellogg. Surviving are his wife, Linda Russell of Greenville; their three children, Sean & Julia Russell of Lexington Park, Maryland, Michelle Russell & Matt Tyson of Kiln, Mississippi, and Andrew & Laurie Russell of Mount Vernon, Washington; four grandchildren, Connor Russell, Colin Russell & Katherine Fravel, Ian Russell, and Cheyenne Tyson; two sisters, Marie Kellogg of Greenville and JoAnn & Bruce Johnson of Holland; a brother-in-law, Calvin & Arlene Stanton of Ionia; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is with the family is from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 505 S. Lafayette Street, Greenville, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Rev. Father James B. Wyse will preside and a luncheon will follow the Mass.
Rite of Committal will take place privately at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Greenville. For those unable to attend the Mass in person, a livestream will also be available at: www.MichiganCremation.com
Instead of flowers, Tom would have appreciated contributions in his memory to St. Charles Catholic School. Envelopes will be available at the church.
