Thomas Mcwhertor

Thomas Emmett McWhertor, age 72, went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2023 at his home in Grand Rapids, MI, after a struggle with renal cancer. Tom was born in Sharon, PA on March 19, 1951 to Harold and Jean (Clark) McWhertor. He was motivated by a deep belief that God is actively at work in the world and will one day bring all creation and humanity together in God's embrace. He worked with and for many non-profit organizations throughout his life, including the Coalition for Christian Outreach (in Pittsburgh, PA), the Center for Public Justice (in Washington, D.C.), Calvin University, and World Renew (in Grand Rapids, MI). Tom is survived by his wife of 49 years Janice; four children; and 10 grandchildren: Kata and Justin Sybenga, Adele and Beckett; Annie McWhertor, Rana and Mira; Christopher and Rebecca McWhertor, Karla, Elena, Gabriel, and Gia; and Colin McWhertor and Lerae Kroon, Alvin and Frankie. Tom is also survived by his uncle, Dan Clark; and by his three siblings and their families: Dan and Mary McWhertor, Jill McWhertor, and Marty and Nanette McWhertor. We will all feel the absence of his deep care and love. A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Church of the Servant on Saturday, August 26 at 2:00 PM.
