Malone
February 16, 1943 – February 14, 2026
Celebration of Life
Casino Club of Grand Rapids (no gambling or slots)
2:00 - 5:00 pm (Eastern time)
Thomas Francis Malone, age 82, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of West Michigan, Tom made his home in Wyoming, Michigan, where he built a life rooted in family, service, and friendship.
Born in Grand Rapids on February 16, 1943 to Frank and Irene (Donovan) Malone, Tom grew up with deep Irish pride and a strong sense of community. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1961 and went on to attend Davenport College for two years. Tom retired from Steelcase, Inc. after many dedicated years of service.
A proud veteran, Tom served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Saratoga from 1962 to 1964 and continued in the Naval Reserve until 1967. Tom was a proud member of the American Legion Post 356.
In 1989, Tom married Mary Wiersum, and together they shared more than three decades of partnership, adventure, and family. Tom especially enjoyed traveling on his Harley-Davidson with his wife Mary and their extensive road trips across the U.S., with Utah being a favorite destination. They also cherished their years as snowbirds in Texas where they made many dear friends. One of Tom’s greatest adventures took him back to his family roots where he traveled to Ireland with his great friend Frank Hultgren.
Tom loved attending his grandchildren’s and great‑grandchildren’s sporting events. A loyal sports fan, he proudly supported the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Detroit Lions.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mary (Wiersum) Malone; children, Brian (Jill) Malone and Stone Malone; stepdaughters, Becky (Jon) Fox and Jennifer Smith; sisters, Maggie (Malone) Crothers and Kathy (Malone) and Bill Bryant; grandchildren, Hillary, Daniel (Ashley), and Ally Malone, Jaden (Mica) and Eli Fox, Trevor and Zachary Crittendon, and Abigail and Beckett Duff; great‑grandchildren, Isabella and Caden Marcusse, and Lorenzo Malone. Extensive extended family, friends, and neighbors, including lifelong friends Mary Lou and Tommy Sanns, Howard Palasek, and Cathy Smith.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Irene (Donovan) Malone and several beloved relatives, brother-in-law Willis “Bill” Crothers, niece Sheila (Becker) Penland, and great nieces Aimee Penland and Elnora Anderson, as well as great friends, Roy and Peg (Palasek) Brown, Ed Jaglowski, and Frank Hultgren.
Known as “The Malone Ranger,” Tom will always be remembered for his spirited storytelling, humor, and unforgettable laugh.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday February 21, 2026 at the Casino Club, located at 3260 Salerno Dr. NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49525. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date.
