Theodore Edwin Walton, age 96, of Baldwin, Michigan passed away November 7, 2023 at the Meceola Currie Comfort Home in Reed City, Michigan.
The son of Claude Leslie & Cora (Meyers) Walton, he was born on February 2, 1927 in Freeport, Michigan. A proud veteran of World War II, Theodore served in the United States Army and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), and the Good Conduct Medal.
He retired from the Gerber Products Company in Fremont after 30-plus years of service where he worked as a salesman. Thereafter he was self-employed as a carpenter, having built his own cabin by hand in Baldwin shortly after returning home from World War II. As part of his civil service, he assisted in the construction of the local VFW Post. On October 27, 2011, in Baldwin, he married his long time best friend, the former Vivian Crystal (Lamb) Vellenga, and together they enjoyed over twelve years of marriage.
Ted also enjoyed hunting, fishing and storytelling, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars - Peacock Post No. 5315.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald Walton and Robert Walton, and sister Dorothy Campbell.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Vellenga-Walton of Baldwin; children: Diane Diener of Fenton, Michigan; Michelle (Dan) Bingham of Wake Forest, North Carolina; and Matthew Walton of Shelby Township, Michigan; 5 grandchildren, Tony Martin, Angela Martin, and Jessica Bingham, Cameron Walton, Aaron Walton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Covenant Community United Methodist Church, 5330 S. M-37, Baldwin, Michigan, with luncheon following at the V.F.W. Peacock Post No. 5315, 2225 S. M-37, Baldwin, Michigan.
