Susan Kay Walczewski, age 77, of Bitely, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14, 2025, after a 3-year battle with cancer.
She was born on September 14, 1947, in Grand Rapids, to the late Donald & Mariann (Hill) Dean.
Susan lived in Grand Rapids and later Jenison where she raised her daughters.
She married Dennis Walczewski on May 17, 1991. Together, they built their cabin on the lake in Bitely. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, feeding the birds, especially humming birds.
At the age of four, Susan, started sewing her own doll clothes which she would continue the rest of her life, becoming the alterations manager at Roger’s Department Store. She lovingly sewed and knitted Halloween costumes, pajamas, blankets, socks, booties and quilts for family members that are cherished to this day. Susan also enjoyed going antiquing, camping, making trips to the casinos to play slots and puzzles.
Survivors include her daughters, Amy (Linda) Busby and children, Jake, Shay and Cece & Anne (Bo) Williamson and children, Owen, Carter (Merissa), Noah and Ryan; step-children, Ed Walczewski and children, Tristan (Angie), Mara, Guin, and Gabe & Brian (Cecily) Walczewski and children, Colin, Quentin and Liam; great-grandchildren, Liam, Rowan and Ari.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Walczewski; and son, Jason Oliver.
A Celebration of Life will be held at her home, 497 E. 92nd Street, Bitely, on Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 12:00pm until 6:00pm, bring a chair and fishing pole. A tribute of Susan’s life will be held at 3:00pm. Private family burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rose Garden for their care and support over the past several months. The family would also extend a thank you to the staff of Emmanuel Hospice for helping the last weeks of Susan’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Blodgett, an organization helping underserved children.
