Remember Sue Wohlford? The woman who could out-fish any man, whose floral arrangements could make a rose blush, and whose paintings sparked more joy than a rainbow in a storm? Well, the world is a little less colorful now. Sue, a spirited, creative, and astoundingly generous soul, has hung up her fishing rod, set down her paintbrush, and taken her final bow. As the actor Edmund Kean once said, "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard." Yet Sue made laughter seem effortless. She was a beacon of light, a master chef in the kitchen, and a Picasso on the canvas.
Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on the 5th of May, 1949, Sue was a proud Michigander through and through. Though she spent time in Jenison, Bellaire, and Hudsonville, it was in South Haven that she truly felt at home. A funny and vibrant woman, she was loved and cherished by many. Despite her recent retirement from managing gas stations, Sue's true passion lay in her hobbies of cooking, floral arrangements, painting, and fishing. She had a knack for turning the mundane into the extraordinary, and her creativity was as boundless as her generosity.
Sue is survived by her loving daughter Heather, her devoted son Jarred, her supportive brother Mike, and the ever-understanding sister-in-law Diane. She is also preceded in death by her father Leon, mother Charlotte, and siblings Bob, Dennis, Nancy, and JD. Her family was her rock, her source of inspiration, and her greatest audience. She loved them fiercely and was loved just as fiercely in return.
In the words of Dr. Seuss, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." So, let's celebrate Sue's life, her laughter, and her legacy.
