Steven Sochor

September 14, 1962 — December 21, 2012

Steven Joseph Sochor, age 50, of Portland, passed away on December 20, 2012 after a valiant fight with melanoma cancer surrounded by his loved ones at the family cottage at Lincoln Lake. The son of Charles & Rose Marie (Tichvon) Sochor, Steve was born September 14, 1962. An avid outdoorsman and sportsman, Steve worked outdoors and owned his own business as a roofer and in construction. His free time was spent hunting and fishing that took him as far as Africa. He enjoyed long walks with his best friend and faithful lab, Chip, several times a day. His family and friends meant so much to him and he had a special love for his nieces and nephews. The impact he had on others was not realized until after he was gone. Steve is survived by his parents; sisters; Kathy (Ron) Cooper, Melanie (Alex) Perez, Suzanne (Vic) Peiffer, and Lisa Fisher: brothers; Dennis, Gary (Deb), Terry, Blaine (Jennifer) and Jon; and a brother-in-law, Kevin Fisher. It was Steve's wish that his body be donated to science for research so that others might benefit from his illness. However, after several different organizations were contacted it was not possible. Since the American Cancer Society is second in research only after the government, it was decided for those who desire donations can be made to the American Cancer Society-Relay For Life in care of Kathy Cooper or Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, MI 48838. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Steven Sochor, please visit our flower store.
