Steven Flachs

Steven G. Flachs of Rockford MI, age 62 entered his eternal heavenly home Monday, August 19, 2019 after a yearlong fight with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Grand Rapids to Bernard and Leatrice (Hoover) Flachs - who have preceded him in death.Steve graduated from Tri County High School in 1974 where he played basketball and held the track high jump record that stood for 31 years. He served for more than a decade with many amazing people in the MI National Guard 1432 Engineer Company, ending his service in Sept. 1988. Steven G. He was born in Grand Rapids to Bernard and Leatrice (Hoover) Flachs - who have preceded him in death. Steve graduated from Tri County High School in 1974 where he played basketball and held the track high jump record that stood for 31 years. He served for more than a decade with many amazing people in the MI National Guard 1432 Engineer Company, ending his service in Sept. 1988. He worked at Rockford Paper Mill for 18 years until it closed and then he joined the maintenance department at Rockford Public where he spent the past 20 years doing whatever needed to be done. Steve loved watching and playing sports. He especially enjoyed playing golf, ping pong and basketball. He volunteered for many years as an assistant soccer coach for his kids. He enjoyed lake life, taking the family out on the pontoon, day trips on the Harley and tinkering around the garage. He was loved and will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary; children, April & Lee Wilburn, Chad & Sarah Flachs, and Rachel & Denny Merryman; grandchildren, Mitchel, Morgan, Hunter, Abel, Adeline, and Jade; great grandson, Zayden; numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019 from 5:00 - 8:00 P.M., and the memorial service will be held Friday, August 23rd, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Rockford United Methodist Church, 159 Maple St. NE, Rockford, 49341.
