Steven R. Counselor, born on May 24, 1967, in Muskegon, passed away on May 4, 2026, in Saranac after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer. Throughout his life and even amidst his illness, Steve exemplified strength and resilience that inspired everyone who knew him.
Steve was a man of kindness and unwavering positivity. He was always ready to lend a hand, offering warmth and understanding to anyone in need. His generosity of spirit was evident to all, touching the hearts of many. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will remember his gentle nature and the way he could brighten any room with his smile.
One of Steve’s greatest joys was spending time outdoors, where he found peace and happiness in camping and fishing. These moments connected him to nature’s quiet beauty and brought immense pleasure to his soul. It was in those serene settings that Steve truly felt at home.
Steve is survived by a loving family who meant the world to him. His wife, Susan, stood by his side with unwavering love and support. He also leaves behind his father, Gary, and stepmother, Becky, who cherished him deeply. His siblings—Scott and Susie—shared in his laughter and memories. Steve was a dedicated father to five children: Jacob, Jeff, Joey, Tasha, and Heather, each carrying forward his legacy of kindness and strength. His 15 grandchildren brought him immense joy and pride, filling his life with love and laughter.
His family also remembers with sorrow the loss of Jane Counselor, who preceded him in death.
Steve’s departure leaves a profound emptiness, but his spirit remains alive in the hearts of those who loved him. He taught us all the meaning of courage and compassion. While his battle has ended, the warmth of his kindness and the light of his positive spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives he touched.
May Steven R. Counselor rest in peace, forever remembered and deeply missed.
