Sheila Kaminski

Sheila Ruth (Johnson) Kaminski, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, far too young. Sheila Johnson was born on February 19, 1963 to Raymond and Veronica (Clark) Johnson. Her beloved brother Ray was not far behind and, because the two were less than a year apart, as children Ray would gloat on his birthday when he eagerly advanced to the same year of age as his older sister--for 6 weeks anyway. Of course, Sheila would get the last laugh once they became adults and Ray reluctantly advanced to the same year of age as his older sister. Throughout her life, Sheila loved to learn and was a model student at every level. At about the age of seven, Sheila found her path and committed herself to what turned out to be a lifetime of service to the Lord. As a child she began singing and performing in church plays and upon entering middle school, she learned to play the flute in the school band. Thus began one of her favorite passions and most profound talents. Her musical abilities are well-known and admired by many here today. Sheila loved using the power of music to minister the love and message of God. Sheila met her husband, Jeri, at the Charlotte Assembly of God youth group in 1978. They married in 1983. Jeri and Sheila were active at Charlotte Assembly of God serving as Sunday school teachers, youth leaders, Sheila in the office and Jeri sound and computers. Sheila also served as the worship leader from 1999 until 2006. Sheila's children, Scott and Amy, were born in 1985 and 1987. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Sheila continued serving in ministry. Both on the platform performing music and in the aisles after service providing encouragement, she loved to use her spiritual gifts to show others the love of Christ. Sheila also enjoyed volunteering in the church youth group, with a particular passion for helping teenagers navigate those troublesome years between childhood and adulthood. In 2006 she went back to college to pursue her studies in counseling. As challenging as it was to work a full-time job while pursuing her degree, Sheila was a remarkably hard worker. Sheila earned her Masters degree in counseling in May 2014. She worked as a counselor at Eaton Behavioral Health and thoroughly loved her work helping others. It is difficult to say goodbye to someone so dearly loved and who gave so relentlessly of herself. But we take hope in knowing that goodbye isn't goodbye at all, but rather "until we meet again." Were Sheila able to speak to us today, she would say that we should not weep for her, for she is with The Lord she so dearly loved throughout her life, and is overflowing with indescribable joy in the presence of The King. Although Sheila will be dearly missed by all who knew her, we know that she is in the eternal light and peace of heaven. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Real Life Church, 1848 Cochran Ave., Charlotte.
