Obituary

Shannon Renee Lopez, age 32, of Ionia, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 9, 2026. She was born on December 7th, 1993 in Jackson, Michigan. Shannon earned her nail technician certificate and worked at Meijer and Magna. Above all, she cherished her family and the life she built with her husband and children. A devoted mother and loving wife, Shannon homeschooled her six children and poured her heart into raising them. Whether collecting Pokémon, spending time together at home, or enjoying the little moments that made up everyday life, Shannon treasured the time she had with her children. She wanted each of them to feel loved and supported as they grew into their own unique personalities. Being their mom was one of the most important parts of who she was, and the love she gave them will always remain with them.

On September 16th, 2009, Shannon met the love of her life, Stephen Juan Lopez-Schnicke. From that day forward, they began a journey together that would span 17 years and bring them six beautiful children. Their love was filled with laughter, playful moments, and countless memories that they would carry with them throughout their lives. Stephen always did his best to give Shannon the life she deserved, making sure she knew how deeply she was loved and doing what he could to give her the things that made her happy. Whether they were laughing together, being silly, or simply enjoying each other's company, they shared a special bond that was uniquely theirs. Through the years, they built a family and life together, creating a love story that will forever remain a part of Shannon's legacy. She was not only Stephen's wife, but his best friend, his partner in life, and the woman he was blessed to share so many years of love and laughter with. Shannon was a passionate activist who cared deeply about others and was always willing to help wherever she could. She stood firmly for what she believed in and was never afraid to speak up for what she felt was right. She had a fierce spirit, a strong sense of justice, and a heart that made room for people who needed someone in their corner. Shannon was a badass in every sense of the word: Strong-willed, outspoken, compassionate, and unapologetically herself. She leaves behind a legacy of standing up for others and staying true to her convictions.

Beyond her activism and devotion to her family, Shannon had a fun and playful side. She loved collecting Pokemon with her husband and children, enjoyed collecting Bratz dolls, and had a special fondness for Halloween. Her favorite movie was The Grinch, a fitting favorite for someone with a memorable personality and spirit all her own. These interests, along with the countless little moments she shared with her loved ones, are part of what made Shannon uniquely Shannon.

Shannon also had a special gift for making the people in her life feel loved. She was an incredibly thoughtful gift giver who truly listened to her friends and remembered the little things that mattered to them. She loved surprising them with gifts that were personal, meaningful, and perfectly suited to who they were. It wasn't just about the gifts themselves, but the thought and love behind them. Shannon had a way of showing people that she listened, that she cared, and that she paid attention to the things that made them happy. It was one of the many ways she showed her love for the people lucky enough to have her in their lives.

She is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Lopez-Schnicke of Ionia; her six children, twin sons, Cristiano and Anastacio, sons, Sergio and Nico, and twin daughters, Ignacia and Luciana, all at home; her parents Terasa & Brent Trebian of Ionia; her brother, Michael Ferris; her parents-in-law, Juan & Melissa Lopez; her grandparents, Doug & Norrine Lane of Six Lakes; her grandparents-in-law, Dale and Deb Schnicke of Crystal; her great-grandmother-in-law, Mamie Schnicke of Orleans; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Shannon's life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at Steele Street Hall, located at 115 S. Steele Street, Ionia, Michigan. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Shannon's memory, share stories, remember the laughter and love she brought into their lives, and celebrate the life of a woman who was truly one of a kind.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are asked to consider making a contribution toward the future needs of Shannon's six beloved children (donations can be directed to Stephen).
