Selene Rice

Selene Marie Rice, 67, of Port Richey, FL passed away peacefully on March 16, 2021, in Grand Rapids, MI under the loving care of her family and Kindred Hospice. Selene was born on the first day of spring in 1953, in Houston, Texas to Paul and Dottie Rice. Selene grew up in a military family and was able to experience life and different cultures overseas starting at an early age. Her family eventually settled in Pasco County, Florida, which is where Selene spent most of her adolescent and young adult years. After living in multiple states and raising her children in Michigan, she later returned to call Florida "home" once again. Selene was a warm, compassionate, and kind-hearted person. She enjoyed connecting with people over deep and thoughtful conversations. Her spirit and intensity were truly captivating. Her laugh could fill a sad room with joy. She loved to host gatherings and would always have her camera ready, even if you weren't camera-ready. She really loved to take pictures. Her photo albums are filled with many photos of loved ones, the places she'd been, and beautiful sunsets on the water. Hot tea in the morning and iced tea the rest of the day, that was Selene's well-known daily routine. She was fascinated with the unknown; she would often watch documentaries and tv shows about ancient mysteries and what awaits in the afterlife. If you ever wanted to pull her away from her favorite shows, all you had to say was "let's go golfing". Not many can say they ever hit a hole-in-one, but she did, and she loved to reminisce about her perfect swing that day. Selene did a lot of great things in her life, but her greatest accomplishments were being a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Her family and friends will miss her deeply, but take comfort knowing that she is no longer in pain and has discovered the afterlife. Selene is survived by her fiance, Jeff Gifford; four brothers, Sam, Al, Steve and Derick; her children, Robert, Jennifer and Kelly; and her grandchildren, Anthony, Ian and Mikey. Selene is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dottie; her brother, Scott; and her son, Mark. A celebration of life will be held in Florida at a later date. In lieu of sending flowers or donations, Selene's family asks that you honor her memory by embracing an opportunity to show kindness to a stranger, help someone who may be less fortunate, or forgive a foe. "Today, why don't you love a little deeper, laugh a little louder, hold the ones you love a little tighter. Because tomorrow is never promised."
