Scott Coburn

March 4, 1955 — June 12, 2025

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Scott Allen Coburn, fondly known as "Captain," who left us peacefully on June 12, 2025. Born on March 4, 1955, in Grant, MI, Scott lived a life that was as vibrant and full as the lakes he loved navigating. He was a man defined by his intelligence, generosity, and exceptional talent, well-respected both as a ship captain and as a gentle, loving person. Scott was a man of the world, yet his heart always remained in Bloomingdale, Michigan, the place he called home. He found joy in the simple pleasures life offered, whether it was fishing, camping (his favorite spot was at the mouth of the Two-Hearted River with his wife Judy), tending to his garden, candle making or crafting beautiful wood furniture. But his true soft spot was for his faithful dog, Mell, who was often the recipient of his abundant affection (not to mention tons of treats). Scott was a beacon of positivity, his spirit as steady as the ships he expertly navigated. Scott is survived by his daughter Renee (Kevin) Stewart and son Mikkel (Laurie) Neeb; his siblings Arden (Steven R Morley) Coburn and Stephen (Robin) Coburn; his grandchildren Tana Neeb, Samantha Stewart, Cody (Samantha Steurer) Neeb, Christopher (Faith Mellen) Stewart; his in-laws Sue (Jim Faist) Snyder, Mary Jo Brown, Bob Jr. (Denise) Snyder, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon and Frieda Coburn, and his beloved spouse, Judith Coburn. Scott's legacy is one of love, kindness, and a life well-lived. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to know him and to share in his remarkable journey. We encourage you to visit Scott's memorial page, where you can share your precious memories of him, and upload photos that celebrate his life. His story is not just one of loss, but one of a life that touched so many others. We look forward to celebrating his journey with you. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids 616-452-3006.
