Sandra Lea “Sandi” Shults, of Zeeland and formerly of Grand Ledge, drew her last breath and passed peacefully from this earth, drawing her first deep and joyful breath in heaven on Friday, December 26th, 2025.
Sandi was born on May 21st, 1952 to Preston and Cylinda Dalman in Holland, Michigan. Her younger years were spent in Imlay City. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1970 where she met her husband, Carroll. They were married in 1974. Sandi’s graduation from Michigan State University followed in 1976 and she and Carroll were longtime Spartan fans, attending countless athletic events together. Prior to retirement in 2004, Sandi exercised her creativity through a career in interior design for many years.
Sandi attended Fellowship Reformed Church in Holland and before that, was a member of Immanuel Community Reformed Church in Lansing for 50+ years. There she served as an elder and established many dear friendships.
Sandi loved to paint and enjoyed teaching painting classes in the community for decades. She was also known for baking decadent cheesecakes, delicious granola, and other tasty treats. All of these she enjoyed gifting to her friends and family and those who knew Sandi were lucky to receive them.
Sandi endured several significant medical challenges throughout her life. Yet her perseverance, faith, and strength drawn from the generosity of caring family and friends carried her through them and her story inspired many. It brought Carroll and Sandi great joy to write about this journey in the book "One in a Billion."
Sandi was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Cylinda Dalman, and her father-in-law, Clifford Shults.
She is survived and remembered with love by her husband of 51 years, Carroll Shults; her sons Matt (Jess) Shults of Wyoming and Andy (Carlie) Shults of Holland; and her grandchildren Will, Eli, Preston, Iver, Ruthie, and Ophelia Shults, all of whom rejoice that she is healed and in the presence of Christ.
Sandi is further survived by her mother-in-law Clela Shults of Charlotte; and siblings Joyce (Don) Nolin-Capman of Lapeer, Jim (Glennda) Dalman of Minnesota, Mary (Tim) VanHeest of Illinois and Barb (James) Austin of Florida; several cherished nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
The family offers their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Mary Free Bed, Trinity Health Grand Rapids, and Emmanuel Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
