Our beloved mother, Sally Barnhart, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, after a short illness. She was 86.
Her greatest joy was being a mom to Betsy Granstra, Brian (Chari) Granstra, and her beloved miniature schnauzer, Lilly.
She was welcomed to heaven by her parents, Willis and Blanche Barnhart, brother, Frank Barnhart, sister, Elizabeth Barnhart, best friends, Diane Wroblewski and Jackie Neill Greene and her treasured dogs and cats.
She is survived by her children and her sister, Vicky (Dave) Meyers.
For 29 years, Sally served as a paraprofessional at Adams Elementary, where she not only taught “snow day” dances during recess and monitored the lunchroom but also worked closely with some extra special students. Her dedication was evident in her attendance at their sporting events, graduations, and weddings, where she celebrated their milestones as if they were her own.
Sally loved dining at the Riverside Family Restaurant, Grand Haven sunsets, going to Walt Disney World, visiting greenhouses, playing crazy eights, and never turning down a slice of crispy bacon.
Sally was the ultimate Dow High Charger fan, proudly wearing her green and gold and cheering from the stands. Her love for Dow High began as she watched Betsy and Brian compete in the pool and on the football field, and it continued as she supported the neighborhood kids at their sporting events. She loved discussing Dow High football and was so happy when Coach Watkins and his family moved next door.
In honor of Sally, we encourage you to catch a sunset, enjoy time with your family, and cheer for Dow High. A fund has been established to support the athletic department at Dow High School. Donations can be sent to Members First Credit Union, Account 0017569457 in c/o Elizabeth Granstra.
