Roy Wood

Mr. Roy W. Wood, age 68, of Greenville, went into the loving arms of his Lord early Sunday morning, Sept. 28, 2008 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, after a lengthy illness. The only child of Roy W. & Nora (Taylor) Wood, he was born on June 21, 1940 in Evansville, Indiana. Roy briefly served his country in the U.S. Army following the Korean Conflict. For 25 years, Roy worked for Monumental Life Insurance Company and was the youngest agent ever promoted to District Sales Manager. On April 30, 1977, in Grand Rapids, he married Vera E. Blumberg. Together they enjoyed selling and collecting antiques. Surviving are his loving wife and devoted caregiver, Vera Wood of Greenville; two sons, Roy Wayne Wood of King Salmon, Alaska, and Kevin & Sherri Wood of San Antonio, Texas; a step-daughter, Cassandra & Burt Wilcox of Greenville; six grandchildren, Tyler and Cameron Wood, and Joshua, Jack, Nicholas, and Madeleine Wilcox; and a sister-in-law, Linda & Mike Dalton of Hubbardston. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held at Ashley Cemetery with Pastor Ken Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. An avid reader, Roy would have appreciated contributions in his memory to the Flat River Community Library instead of flowers.
