Ronald Lynn Bennett, age 77, of Greenville, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024 at home. The son of Leo & Geraldine (Morgan) Bennett, he was born on June 22, 1947 in Greenville. Ron graduated from Greenville High School and worked various jobs before landing at Federal Mogul. Before retiring in 2002 after thirty years, he served as a union steward and held several other committee positions in the factory. He liked to brag that he was the hardest worker there, but we all knew better than that. After retirement, he worked at Master Precision Mold as a part-time parts driver that took him to Chicago, New York, but mostly in the West Michigan area.
On September 6, 1997, he married Lorraine Oke in Las Vegas, and together, they enjoyed 21 years of marriage until her passing in April 2019. They were two peas in a pod. They loved to play jokes on friends, sing and dance to oldies, and just enjoy their time together.
Ron loved to play cards and drink beer with his friends. If you stopped over for a visit, you knew a game of "Tunk" was going to happen and you had better have your quarters ready to lose. He had a gift of writing poems, was known for his unique wit, and most of the time embarrassing poems that had everyone laughing. If you had the privilege of being on the receiving end of one of his poems, then you were special. He was proud of his garden, which normally didn't produce many vegetables, but it kept him busy.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Patricia, Sandy, Bobby, and Denny; his wife, Lorraine; Lorraine's son, Robby Oke; and her grandson, Devin TenBrink.
Ron will be dearly missed by his son, Jeff (Kristy) Bennett; his grandson, Joey Bennett (who was the apple of Papa's eye); two brothers, Larry Bennett and Leo (Kathy) Bennett, Jr.; Lorraine's children, who he loved as his own, Shelly (Dale) TenBrink and Randy (Dana) Oke, and their children; his first wife, Marion Foster; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and many many friends.
So raise a glass and give a cheer, think of Ron and drink your beer!
A celebration of Ron's life will be held in late spring/early summer and details will be posted later.
