Roger James Haight, age 82, of Byron Center, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 27, 2025. He was born September 28, 1942, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Charles and Leta (Seba) Haight. Roger proudly served his country for three years in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Elisabeth Maria Stuber on May 29, 1962, in Germany. They raised their two sons and celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage together before Elisabeth passed away on July 29, 2021.
He always put his family first. He introduced his sons to Golf, a game that he enjoyed with them as well as with his brothers Marvin and Bill. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader with his favorites being Jim Harrison, Ernest Hemingway and James Patterson. He spent a great deal of time along with his wife as members of the Edelweiss Club celebrating his German heritage. Roger was a machine operator at General Motors for over 25 years until his retirement in 2003. He always had time to help his neighbors and family as he was the most selfless, noble, and honest man.
Roger obtained his GED after serving in the Army. He later attended GRCC and continued his education at Grand Valley State College where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science in 1976.
Survivors include his two sons, Heiko Charles Haight and Marco James Haight. He also has many nieces and nephews from his extended family, which include relatives in Germany.
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Elisabeth; his parents, Charles and Leta; and his siblings, Gloria Gerard, Marvin Haight, Glenn “Bill” Haight, Joyce Mead, Bonnie Potter, and Charlene Leach.
