Roger Griffes

Roger Lee Griffes, age 68, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2018 with family by his side. The son of Wallace & Bertha (Tucker) Griffes, he was born on October 15, 1949 in Montcalm County. Roger Griffes was the last of his siblings born and also the first to be born in a hospital. He grew up in Coral, MI and was always surrounded by family. Roger eventually moved to Grand Rapids. He then married Robin on July 3, 1987 in Comstock Park. Roger was also working at Metzger Conveyers. He dedicated 35 years of loyal service before retiring in 2016. Roger loved hiking at Riverside Park, going to yard sales, and walking to get ice cream. He treasured going to the Griffes family reunion to seeing his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, brothers and sisters as much as he could! Roger also enjoyed camping in the Upper Peninsula. He was always spoiling his family with camping trips every year. Roger couldn't get enough and cherished how happy his family was when they went. He enjoyed passing candy out during Halloween as he loved to see the kids dressed up. Roger also had his share of wild squirrels that he would feed daily, and neighborhood cats that he didn't mind taking care of. He was a hard worker, an amazing father who loved his family. Roger would give the shirt off his back to help anyone and was always making jokes. He will be missed so dearly by his wife his children his grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews until they meet again! Roger is survived by his loving wife, Robin; their children, David Russell Holbrook, Jeremiah John Griffes, Alexis Sunshine Anne Tumbev, James Eagle Eye Petter Honeycutt, Jennifer Littledeer Marie Honeycutt, Alisha Marie Chippeway, Kazia Chantel Shull; grandchildren, Kevin Michael Holbrook, Brittany Marie Mitchell, Bethany Fay Holbrook, Hallie Genevive DeBoer, Evan Riley Griffes, Bradley Allan Shull Jr., Giizhap Giisis Robert Sawmick, Emmett Earl Roger Shull, Emma Paije Holbrook, Jessa Ann Holbrook, Addilynn Chevelle Holbrook; siblings, Clifford Griffes, Russell Griffes, and Irene Metzen. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Pete Griffes, Harry Griffes, George Griffes, Norman Griffes, Richard Griffes, Donna Truss, and Doreen Griffes. Honoring his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
