Roger Herbert Almas, age 72, of Greenville, passed away Monday, November 16, 2009 at his winter home in Lakeland, Florida. The only child of Herbert & Beatrice Almas, he was born on July 11, 1937 in Greenville.
A master builder and skilled carpenter, Roger spent most of his life working with his hands as a licensed contractor. He had been a long-time member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Grand Rapids. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Vera Almas; their children, children. Larry & Phyllis Almas of Greenville, Jay & Cheryl Almas of Cedar Springs, Mark & Ronda Almas of Rockford, Tammy & Nathan Lowe of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dawn & Carlos Spataro of Muskegon; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Norvel & Violet Park of Houghton Lake; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Spencer Township Hall, 14960 Meddler Avenue, Gowen (southwest side of Lincoln Lake), where the family will receive relatives and friends for a time of food and fellowship from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the hall.
