Rodney Lynn Hill (Rod), 73, of Six Lakes, Michigan passed away on May 6, 2025, at his longtime partner Karen Smith’s home. He was preceded in death by his parents Keith Gene and Betty Jean (Vanderveen) Hill and sisters Jeannie Hill and Barbara Hill.
Rodney was born in Edmore, Michigan on October 1, 1951, and graduated from Montabella High School-Class of 1969. A lifelong resident of Six Lakes, Michigan, Rod raised two daughters, Chariti and Mindy, working for Buick Com and Michigan Consolidated Gas Company. Rod was a hobby farmer and looked forward to every Spring when he could start planting. Rod and Karen also enjoyed mushroom hunting and traveling to Frederic, Michigan to visit Karen’s mother.
Rod was a very caring man with a stubborn streak. He would do anything for his friends and was very loyal to them. If he was crossed, he would walk away and never look back. He had his own code of conduct and was a private man. Most of his closest friends were friends for decades: Mike Root, Hoss Buskirk, Stew Buskirk, Randy and Carrie Rodgers, Lonnie Hoffman, Michael Frick…and many more. Many of these friends were lifelong friends, some reaching past 50 years. Rod was known for always lending a helping hand or helping someone in need. He would help build/repair houses for his friends and their children and would often be seen driving his backhoe or golf cart with his dog, Stevie, or in his gardens.
A special thank you to Jen and the hospice team that assisted Rod and Karen for the past 14 months and continues to help Karen through this difficult time.
Out of respect and per Rod’s wishes, there will be no memorial service held, however, there will be many campfires this Spring and Summer where Rod will be remembered and stories shared. He will be missed very much by Karen, family and friends.
