Robert Steele

December 23, 1950 — June 23, 2023

Robert "Bob" Edward Steele, age 72 of Belding, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at home on Friday, June 23, 2023. He was born December 23, 1950 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to the late Ford and Dorothy (Urbanski) Steele. In 1969, he graduated from North Muskegon high school. Bob earned a degree in history from Michigan State University, and went on to teach it to community college students. He was quite a history buff and took pride in sharing his love for historical facts. Bob married, Jane Elizabeth Johnson on August 14, 1993, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He worked as a correction officer for more than 27 years for the state of Michigan before retiring. Bob enjoyed working with his hands and wasn't afraid of hard work. Bob liked the simple things in life. He took pleasure in going to the movies and Broadway shows. He was known for indulging in the buttery movie popcorn. Bob had a keen sense of humor and took delight in sharing stories and laughs with people he came in contact with. Bob could be seen wearing either Michigan State shirts, or T-shirts with a sarcastic phrase. Bob enjoyed the hobbies of golfing, stain glass making, hunting fishing, and traveling. He had a deep giving admiration for children. He attended Santa Claus school to take part in giving to children at Christmas time. Bob was a spiritual man and found solace in his beliefs. His faith in God kept him strong. Bob's greatest legacy was his love for his family. He was a devoted husband and father. He took pride in all of his children and shared a deep mutual love with all of them. "He was the best Dad a man could be". His family meant everything to him. Bob is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Jane; his children, Jefferson, Grant and Courtney (McKeever), Taylor and (future son-in-law) Jake Kennel, Carter, McKinley, and Madison; siblings, Thomas and Cheryl (Rhodes), Nancy, Ronald and Haviland (Wallace), Frederick and Jodi (Weber) Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. Per his wishes, Cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life was held. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Faith Hospice for the care, help and compassion, they gave Bob and them throughout this difficult time. The family would also like to thank the many friends that extended their love and support as they said their final "see ya laters".
