Robert Lincoln

July 16, 1926 — December 20, 2014

Robert W. Bob Lincoln, age 88, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, December 20, 2014 surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of Ellsworth & Carrie (Stedman) Lincoln, he was born on July 16, 1926 in Gowen and grew up on the family farm near Lincoln Lake, where he began his lifelong hobby of working with and riding horses. After graduating from Greenville High School in 1944, Bob served in the U.S. Army. A proud veteran of World War II, he was trained as a paratrooper, served as part of the Army of Occupation in Japan, and was a life member of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan and the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville. On February 20, 1948, at the United Methodist parsonage in Greenville, he married Virginia Lucile Silverthorn and together they enjoyed almost 67 years of marriage and raised three sons. Bob first worked at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company, however spent most of his working years as a carpet installer for Vogues Furnishings. He was a devoted member of the Living Faith Family Church in Greenville, had enjoyed fishing, league bowling, and softball in his younger days, and was an avid dog lover. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Clarissa Lincoln; an infant daughter, Laurie Elizabeth Lincoln; a sister, Ethel Williams Cornwell; a brother, Frank Lincoln; a step-sister, Margaret Salsbury; and a daughter-in-law, Donna M. Lincoln. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Lincoln of Greenville; three sons, Phillip & Debbie Lincoln of Gowen, Randy & Linda Lincoln of Greenville, and Curtis & Mary Lincoln of Mattawan; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Ingersoll; two brothers-in-law, Harry Silverthorne and Ethan Silverthorne, all of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Pastor Lynda Dyke of Living Faith Family Church will officiate and military honors will be rendered by the American Legion. Burial will take place privately at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.
