Robert Kane

February 10, 1942 — June 6, 2023

Robert (Bob) Joseph Kane, age 81, passed away in his home in Grandville, Michigan on June 6, 2023. Preceded in death by parents Robert and Rose Kane and sisters Barbara Volonino and Elaine, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy (Crandall) Kane, son Michael Kane (Cory), daughter Robyn Kane-Haberkorn (Brett) and grandchildren Oliver, Saige, Remy, bonus grandchildren Xavier and Evelyn, and a host of half-siblings, loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. Born and raised in Hell's Kitchen, New York City, he maintained his tough NYC image long after leaving Manhattan to move to Michigan. Never one to conform, he had a rebellious spirit but the most gentle soul. A musician and lifelong lover of music, he spent his early years traveling as a drummer with Joey Greco and the In Crowd and as a model for the Monkees' billboard and print ads. He said that when he died, he would become a music note for Pink Floyd. His creative spirit was evident in his multiple tattoos, his storytelling, his over-the-top halloween costumes, and even in the names of his beloved pets over the years. Known for his dry sense of humor, he could make his family and friends laugh to the point of tears and did so right up to the end. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era and worked for Chartwells Food Service at Cranbrook Schools. He will be deeply missed. A private interment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Spectrum Health Hospice or Marine Toys for Tots, and to listen to Pink Floyd to keep his spirit alive. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids, 616-452-3006, exclusive providers of Veterans Funeral Care.
