Mr. Robert J. "Bob" Haight, age 61, of Greenville, passed away Sunday evening, November 8, 2009 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital, Greenville.
The son of Melvin O. & Janet Christine (Sellar) Haight, he was born on April 8, 1948 in Grand Rapids. Following his graduation from Greenville High School, Bob served with the 2nd Cavalry of the 4th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of sergeant.
A proud veteran of the Vietnam war, Bob had been a member of the Lester J. Sitts VFW Post 5065 in Sheridan and the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville.
Over the years he worked at R.J. Tower Automotive and more recently was a maintenance supervisor with DeWitt Barrel. A master tinkerer, Bob could fix just about anything and also enjoyed fishing, cooking and canning, and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Orrie Haight and Ken Haight; and a sister, Cheryl Harger.
Surviving are his children, Chad Haight & Kristin Waber, Brent Haight & Natalie Thompson, all of Greenville, Terra Haight & Brandon Esquivel of Grand Rapids, and Amanda & Dan VanDusen of South West Harbor, Maine; six grandchildren, Hunter Haight, Michael Haight, Logan Haight, Kaiden Esquivel, Samuel VanDusen, and Nadia VanDusen; a brother, Harold Haight & Sheila Smith of Greenville; two former wives, Mary Haight of Greenville and Teresa Zumwalt of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Christiansen Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
Pastor Ken Harger will officiate and burial, with full military honors, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek.
Instead of flowers, relatives and friends are asked to consider the needs of the family. Envelopes for memorial contributions to help with Bobs final expenses will be available at the funeral home.
