Robert E. "Bob" Campbell, age 59, of Greenville, longtime business and accounting instructor at Montcalm Community College, passed away Tuesday evening, September 11, 2012 at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after battling multiple myeloma for several years.
The son of Myron P. & Bernice Eva (Harper) Campbell, he was born on April 1, 1953 in Greenville and was a 1971 graduate of Belding High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Aquinas College and his master's degree from Ferris State University. An instructor at Montcalm Community College for 27 years, teaching and his student's were his life's passion. A master gardener, Bob was currently serving as president of the Montcalm County Master Gardener's, had served on the Heritage Village board, and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Greenville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Erma Marsh; and a brother, Carl Campbell. Surviving are his significant other, Karen Deja of Edmore; three children, Andy Campbell of Calabasas, California, Amy Campbell of Lousiville, Kentucky, and Joe Davenport of Redondo Beach, California; a sister, Fern Hopkins of Fenwick; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends, colleagues, and former students.
Visitation is Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where envelopes for contributions to a scholarship fund to be established in his memory (in care of the Montcalm Community College Foundation) or to the Montcalm County Master Gardener's will be available. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the First Congregational Church, Greenville, with burial following at River Ridge Cemetery in Belding. The Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of the First Congregational Church, will officiate.
