Robert Fred Berger, age 86, of Six Lakes and formerly of the Detroit area, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022 at home, under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice.
The son of Robert& Marion (Chilman) Berger, he was born on October 27, 1935 in Detroit and was the older brother to his sister, Betty, and brother, Bill. On August 1, 1960, he married Nancy Berger (Sagatilian), who passed away on September 25, 2013. Together, they enjoyed nearly 54 years of marriage and raised four children.
Robert was a 1953 graduate of Detroit Southwestern High School, where he played baseball and was the quarterback of the football team. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and Navy Reserve, having attained the rank of Electrician's Mate during the Korean War.
Robert was a superintendent in the Detroit area steel mills before he and Nancy retired up north. He enjoyed smoking cigars while sitting in his recliner, and watching sports and keeping up with current affairs and politics.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Nancy Berger. Surviving are his four children, Mark, Lisa & Rick, Robert, and Kelly, who took great care of him, and kept him in check for the last nine years since Nancy's passing; eight grandchildren, Dayna, Billy, Tara, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Robert, Lucy, and Rain; and six great-grandchildren, Avery, Ayden, Liam, Jackson, Audrey, and Robert.
