Robert O. Barnes, age 79, of rural Sheridan, passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 8, 2005 at Spectrum Health United Memorial-United Campus, Greenville, after a sudden heart attack. The son of F. Gerald & Orletta (Nummer) Barnes, he was born on Aug. 18, 1926. A graduate of Greenville High School, Bob went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. After the war, he returned home and married the former Joyce M. Puffpaff on April 28, 1946, and worked at Federal-Mogul in Greenville, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife of almost 60 years, Joyce Barnes; two sons, Jerry & Laurie Barnes of Clinton Township, and Michael Barnes and Barton Rarick of Chicago; a granddaughter, Erin Barnes; two grandsons, Sean Barnes, and Trevor Barnes; two brothers-in-law, Martin Puffpaff of Pennsylvania, and Fritz & Anne Puffpaff of Charlevoix; and special friends, Alice & Ernie McMeeken of Greenville.
As Bob requested, no funeral services will be held. However, visitation is on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. Military honors, rendered by the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 will conclude the visitation. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of ones choice.
