Robert Alvarez

Robert “UB” Lee Alvarez, age 71, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away on October 12, 2023, at his home after a long illness brought on by his exposure to Agent Orange while serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Bob passed just four days shy of his 72nd birthday, October 16th. He was preceded in death by his parents, Santos and Natividad and his brothers, Jesus and Jose Alvarez. Bob is survived by his sisters, Josephina Gutierrez, Ester Garcia, Linda (Mike) Bartz, and Christina Alvarez; uncle, Enrique Alvarez; numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly called him UB; his extended family in San Antonio, Texas; fiancé, Loretta Gerbracht and her children and grandchildren whom Bob loved as his own; and his faithful companion, Bow. Bob was an avid and loyal Tigers fan, he had a love/hate relationship with the Lions, and also loved the Maize and Blue. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1253 52nd Street SE, Kentwood, MI 49508. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Peter Vu officiating. Burial will take place on Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, 2894 Patterson Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI at 2:30 p.m. with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army and Kent County Veterans Honor Guard.
