Robert Achterhof

Robert Alan Achterhof, age 82, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Tena Achterhof and his brothers, Jack and William and sister: Ruth Whiteman. He is survived by his two brothers Paul and James Achterhof and sister Arlyn Batts (Jerry, deceased) and many special friends: Sergei Ivonin, Kevin Brady, Michael Arnott, and Verlyn Schultz. Robert graduated from Calvin College and went to work as a teacher at Unity Christian High School and at Holland High School where he taught Music and English. He also directed numerous church choirs and played organ, notably at Cascade Christian Church in Cascade, MI. Robert was a selfless person and enjoyed helping others. He will be greatly missed by friends and family. Upon his wishes cremation has taken place. Robert will be remembered with some special words from Pastor Jill Forton, on Sunday June 10, at Cascade Christian Church during the scheduled 11:00 a.m. church service. Memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Cascade Christian. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
