Richard Dean Stedman, age 76, of Langston, passed away Monday evening, November 19, 2012 at Metron of Greenville. The son of Carol Richard & Frances Adelia (McDiarmid) Stedman, he was born on April 25, 1936 in Lake Odessa and grew up in the Gowen area. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Richard served following the Korean War and then worked at the former Gibson Refrigerator Company where he retired as a hi-lo driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a skilled woodworker. On June 29, 1990 he married the former Margaret W. Wiggins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Eileen Lowry on Nov. 15, 1993, and Phyllis Ann Roger on Feb. 7, 2012. Surviving are his devoted wife, Margaret Stedman of Langston; a brother, Darrell Lee Stedman; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Visitation is Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon. Pastor Tom Bush of Langston Church will officiate and burial, with full military honors, will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek.
