We are saddened to announce the passing of Richard Earl Rokita, fondly known as Rick, on May 9, 2025. Born on September 4, 1945, in Quincy, IL, USA, Rick spent the prime of his life in Shelbyville, Michigan. He was a loving husband, a trustworthy friend, and a man who lived his life with passion and purpose.
Rick's zest for life was infectious and his enthusiasm for bowling was unparalleled. He dedicated his life to the sport and the community surrounding it. As a Regional Manager in a prominent bowling business, Rick was known for his leadership, strategic insight, and a knack for nurturing young talents. His commitment to the sport and the people in it shaped the lives of countless individuals. Acknowledging his contributions, John Wooden once said, "Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts." And Rick embodied this spirit, leaving an indelible mark on the world of bowling.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Cathie Rokita. They shared a love that was deep and timeless, a love that was evident in their unwavering support for each other. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Adam W and Mary (Goodwin) Rokita and his brother, James M Rokita. Surviving also James wife, Rita Rokita, brother, Robert Rokita (Barbara), sisters, Marynelle Kellum, Shelley Fenton and Jenny Kelley (Kent); sister-in-law, Amy (Dave) Blakeslee. His children, Camden (Becky) Rokita, Renae (Johnny) Von Burg, Tiffany (Phil) Hiscock, James (Ericka) Speck and Michael (Erin) Speck.
Also multiple beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He enjoyed all his family and fun and laughter... avid Michigan, Dodger & Cowboys fan, loved his music & concerts
All of which we got to share with him!!
Rick's legacy of love, perseverance, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
We also want to acknowledge his years of service for our country, in the US ARMY.
He was in Vietnam for more than a year, even with a purple heart, but would never boost about it... he was simply serving his country and fellow soldiers!
We encourage friends and loved ones to share their cherished memories and photographs of Rick on the memorial page. It is these personal tributes that will keep his spirit alive and honor his exceptional life. As we remember Rick, let us recall the words of Helen Keller: "What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."
Rick's burial will be at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Church - Cemetery
He will have a dedicated Mass and private family dinner in his honor, as per His wishes.
