Richard W. "Dick" Murtland, age 83, of El Paso, Texas, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021. The son of Ed & Beulah Murtland, he was born on April 24, 1938 in Grand Rapids. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Dick served as a medic from 1959-1962, and retired as a Facility Manager with General Electric.
Dick was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Paso, where he served as a deacon, and also volunteered with Mustard Seed Cafe, Crossing Borders, Kelly Food Pantry, First and the Mississipi Nailbenders (a volunteer church building ministry).
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen James; and a brother, Don Murtland.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Patricia "Pat" Murtland of Texas; two sons, Ric & Sue Murtland of Virginia, Dav & Jennifer Murtland of Indiana; grandchildren, Michael & Cristen Murtland of Virginia, Jennifer & Vincent De Bono of Virginia, Christi & Matt Kilgore of Virginia, Austin Moore of Indiana, Ryan Murtland of Indiana, Dean Murtland of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Barbara & Tom Lindeman of Greenville, and Sue Murtland of Comstock Park; several great-grandsons, nieces, nephews; and many friends.
Memorial services are at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church, 12501 Montcalm N.E., Greenville. Instead of flowers, contributions to one of the organizations that Dick volunteered with or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
